Activities for week beginning November 5th

Beatha agus sláinte chughat.
A short reminder of our scheduled activities for this week.
Tomorrow, Monday, 5th November sees the first in our series of tutorials on Using your Lap-top.
These classes will be held in Blackrock Education Centre and all of the participants on the course have been contacted re arrangements.
The Art class returns to Willington tomorrow after its mid-term sojournJ
Lance armstrong may be in disgrace but not so our intrepid cycling group. Our next cycling event will be on this Tuesday,  Nov 6th. Walter Cullinane has had  a look at St. Anne’s Park Raheny and spoke to a Park Ranger and he indicated cycling was okay in the park for small groups. A few short loops within the park are grand, together with a coffee stop at the Tír na nÓg coffee shop located in the middle.Walter suggests that we meet at the first carpark on the Clontarf road opposite the Methodist Church at 11, cycle out to St. Annes, go around the park and then have a coffee break, and return the same route. For those still wondering whether to come along on a leisure cycle – so far we have been blessed with fine weather and the pace has been leisurely and we assure you that regular cyclists will enjoy the outing. If cycling on the street, please wear a luminous cycling jacket – now that the days are duller. Be safe – be seen.
We have our November drop in to Ballyroan Community Centre on Wednesday at 11 o’clock. Fáilte roimh gach ball, mar is ghnáth.
Thursday:  Bridge in Club na Múinteoirí
Thursday:: Family History Class in Sandyford Community Centre.

Bain taitneamh as eachtraí na seachtaine agus scaip an scéal.

Cycling Club

Beatha agus sláinte chughat.
You may know that we have a group within our ranks who have formed a leisure cycling “club” – open to anybody who enjoys gentle cycling. None of the group are in the Lance Armstrong league  nor engage in the nefarious behaviour that is alleged against him.
You are invited to join the next cycle on Tuesday next, 16th October. We will meet at the Wellington monument in the Phoenix Park at 10.55am and and cycle within the park. A tea / coffee break is written in to the schedule. There is some on road parking (free) close to the monument and in other parts of the park. Open to all members – male and female.
Fáilte romhat.

Club Miscellany & Other Events

Beatha agus sláinte chughat.
This week we return to Club na Múinteoirí for our Club Miscellany. This will be on Tuesday at 11.30 and will focus on Africa – an Irish perspective of its people, cultureand  education. The Miscellaney is open to all members and we welcome contributions from anybody who would like to share their interest with an audience. Una Ní Cheallaigh enthralled her listeners at our last miscellany with a reading of some of her poems – a unique “take” on a wide variety of topics and themes.
Charge of €4 includes sandwiches / tea / coffee which will be available at about 12.45. Feel free to bring along a friend. It would be helpful if those interested in attending would send me an email to that effect by 6pm on Monday evening – so that we can give an approx. number for sandwiches.
The Art class will be held on Monday.
Wednesday will see us take to the hills once again on a hill walk. Deirdre is checking out the route today and I will issue the details of the walk tomorrow evening to all those on our emailing list.
Thursday – Genealogy Class in Sandyford at 9.30am.
Book Clubs – each book club  makes its own arrangements as to the next meeting.

Bain taitneamh as eachtraí na seachtaine.

Walk on Wed Oct 10th

The easy walk on Wednesday is a circuit of Roundwood Reservoir taking 2 – 3 hrs depending on what people want. It takes 2 hrs to walk from Roundwood around the southern section of the lake. Anyone who wants to leave the walk at that stage can do so at the bridge while it takes a further hour to complete the full circuit back to the same starting point.
There is a choice of meeting spots as parking is a bit limited.
Either
At Tymon Park , just beyond the Spawell and Faughs GAA club on Wellington Lane at 10am
or
In Roundwood , opposite The Roundwood Inn, to leave at 11am. There is room for about 8 cars here.
Runners should be ok for the walk as there is a fairly good path.  There is no climbing whatsoever. The entire route is FLAT! Bring the usual rain coat and maybe a snack and drink.
Helen Rohan will lead this walk as she has done it very recently and knows it well.
If anyone wants more info, her number is 0868717696
Looking forward to a big turnout for this very scenic walk!
Deirdre

Golf Lessons

Those who may have an interest in Golf Lessons should read the message below from Donall Ó Murchú. As Donall states in his note we will run with golf lessons now or in the Spring time if there is sufficient interest in such a class, i.e. 6 or 7 members is the minimum required to form a class. Please let me know by email as soon as possible if you are interested in golf lessons on Thursdays starting 11th October or in March, 2013.
míle buíochas

Golf Lessons

A chairde,
Our golf lessons due to start today were cancelled due to lack of numbers  The cost of lessons was predicated on a group of 6/7 people taking part.  We only had 4 signed up.  I have made contact with Gillian who has agreed to change the day to a Thursday beginning on 11th of October. Let me know if this would suit you better and if we manage to get a group together we’ll go with the 11th.  If we don’t manage to form a group at this time, we will postpone the lessons until spring, and hopefully we will be able to make up the numbers at that stage.
Don’t forget our Dublin Mountain golf outing on Friday 19th of October.

Dé Luain: 10.30am Art Class commences in Templeogue. Arrangements have been sent to all of the participants.
Dé Máirt: 11am Our Leisure Cycle. This cycle will take place within the confines of the Phoenix Park and the terrain, the distance and the pace should be well within the capacity of most cyclists. It will be mainly off main road avoiding car traffic. There will be at least one coffee stop. We look forward to a good turnout for this cycle. Those who intend driving to the Phoenix Park with the bicycle in the boot of the car should find parking in the car park quite close to the Wellington monument. The cycle will set off from the monument. at 11am.
Dé Céadaoin: You are invited to join other members at the Drop-in in Ballyroan Community Centre – between 11am and 1pm.
Déardaoin: The Genealogy class in Sandyford Community Centre 9.30am to 11.30am. Bridge in Club na Múinteoirí.

If you are a convenor of any of the RTA Book Clubs perhaps you would let me know if your book club is active, when it meets and where and if your club is recruiting any new members at present or is full. We are trying to establish what level of book club activity is taking place among branch members.

Cancellation of Walk around Howth

Because of the dreadful weather conditions over the past two days and because the forecast for tonight and early tomorrow doesn’t indicate any improvement we have cancelled the walk around Howth which we had planned for tomorrow. I hope that you won’t be too disappointed. In the circumstances it’s better be safe than be sorry.
