About next Wednesday: we are doing a walk partly along the Wicklow Way starting at Luggala which is on the road from Roundwood to the Sally Gap. For those coming from Rathfarnham direction: drive to the Sally Gap, turn left and drive about 6 kms past Ballinastoe woods and the Pier Gates to a forest opening on the right hand side opposite what looks like a derelict car-park in a field. There is only room at this entrance for about 7 cars so car-pooling would be a great help. Extra cars can park along the road.
Dennis Gill will accompany us and will be at the Silver Tassie at 10.30am to meet with those who want to leave cars there. I will be at Tymon Park, further along Wellinton Lane from the Spawell (where we can no longer leave cars!) leaving at 10.15am for anyone who wants to meet up there. People coming from town can take bus 150 or 54A and get off at the stop for St McDara’s school. Park entrance is very close to there.
The walk should be 3 hours or less and is not very demanding, but can be wet underfoot in places so boots are needed. There are 2 deserted villages on the route and we will probably have lunch in the second one overlooking Loughs Tay and Dan. On a fine day the views are wonderful and there are deer and (at least one) red squirrel along the route!
